Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Friday, December 4 – Welcome to Naples!

    Benvenuti a Napoli! Upon arrival, check into your charming hotel in the heart of the city and get ready to experience the soul of Southern Italy.

     

    In the afternoon, meet your fellow travelers and Journey director for a leisurely stroll along Via Toledo and through the elegant Galleria Umberto, alive with Christmas lights and the joyful hum of Neapolitan life.

     

    Complete the evening with a welcome dinner in a delicious pizzeria.

  • Day 2 – Saturday, December 5 – The Spirit of Naples

    Begin the day with a guided walking tour through Naples’ spiritual and artistic heart. Visit the Naples Cathedral (Duomo) and the Chapel of San Gennaro, then wander along Via San Gregorio Armeno, where artisans craft intricate presepi (Nativity figures) by hand.

     

    Continue to Gesu’ Nuovo and Santa Chiara to admire their stunning architecture and sacred art. Taste Naples’ beloved street foods — from flaky sfogliatella pastries to the irresistible cuppitiello, a paper cone filled with fried specialties.

     

    Enjoy an afternoon at leisure to explore or relax, then get ready  for a hands-on cooking experience followed by a festive group dinner .

  • Day 3 – Sunday, December 6 – Ancient Treasures

    Travel back in time on a guided visit to Herculaneum, one of the best-preserved Roman cities buried by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Afterward, enjoy a farm-to-table lunch at a local ristorante, savoring authentic regional dishes paired with Campanian wines.

     

    Return to Naples for an afternoon guided visit to the National Archaeological Museum, home to exquisite treasures from Pompeii and Herculaneum. Dinner and evening are free to unwind, explore, or enjoy the city’s seaside promenade under twinkling lights.

  • Day 4 – Monday, December 7 – Art, Views & Serenity

    This morning, visit the Certosa di San Martino, a beautiful hilltop monastery that offers sweeping views over the Gulf of Naples and houses an impressive collection of historic Neapolitan presepi.

     

    After a leisurely lunch, spend the afternoon discovering your own corner of Naples — perhaps visiting an artisan workshop, enjoying a gelato by the harbor, or simply soaking in the festive mood of this vibrant city.

  • Day 5 – Tuesday, December 8 – From Naples to Rome

    Say arrivederci to Naples as you travel north to Rome, Italy’s Eternal City.

     

    Along the way, we will make a stop in Caserta, for a private guided tour of one of the most famous and beautiful Royal Palaces in all Europe: the astonishing Reggia di Caserta. Travel back in time, gazing at the largest palace erected in Europe in the 18th century, now a UNESCO Wolrd Heritage Site.

     

     

    After settling into our hotel in Rome, we’ll enjoy an evening walking tour through Rome’s illuminated streets, visiting Santa Maria Maggiore and the Scala Santa (Holy Stairs). Wander toward Piazza Navona, beautifully decorated for the holidays and, if the timing is right, bustling with its charming Christmas Market.

     

     

    End the evening with a group dinner at a cozy Roman restaurant.

  • Day 6 – Wednesday, December 9 – The Vatican & Christmas Splendor

    Morning at leisure to explore more of the Eternal City, visit local boutiques or enjoy some Christmas pastries in a local cafe. 

     

    After lunch on your own, embark on a guided tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica, taking in the majesty of the world’s most important art and architecture. Outside, admire the life-size Nativity scene in St. Peter’s Square, one of Rome’s most beloved Christmas traditions.


    We’ll return to the hotel to relax and freshen up before gathering together for a group dinner at a local restaurant nearby.

  • Day 7 – Thursday, December 10 – Castel Gandolfo Papal Palace

    Today we’ll enjoy a day trip to the nearby Castel Gandolfo and Castelli Romani region. Accompanied by our guide we’ll explore the Pontifical Palace that is part of a 135-acre complex with buildings surrounded by beautiful gardens. Once the summer retreat for the Pope, Castel Gandolfo is now open to the public. Visit the palace’s interior including the papal apartments, portrait gallery, and summer office and get a glimpse into 500 years of papal history and art. 

     

     

    Afterward, enjoy a farewell lunch together, celebrating a week filled with beauty, friendship, and discovery in the charming town of Nemi.

     

     

    Spend your final evening strolling Rome’s festive streets, taking in the glow of the city’s Christmas charm.

  • Day 8 – Friday, December 11 – Arrivederci!

    After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your departure flight, available upon request. Take with you the warmth of Italy’s holiday season — and memories that will last a lifetime.

  • Any personal expense outside of the scheduled itineraries. Each traveler is also responsible if they cause any damage to hotel properties.

Before you sign up, please note the following:

  • Some tours start and end in different cities, make sure to book your flights accordingly.
  • Reminders, hotel information, and arrival instructions will be sent only by email, please make sure we have your current email address.
  • You must be in good physical condition to sign-up for this trip! There will be extended standing and walking over uneven pavement. An average walking tour is about 2-3 hours without sitting.
  • We strongly recommend that you purchase Travel Insurance for your trip. For suggestions on policies and a quote, please contact us.
  • You should know that air conditioning in Greece, as well as WIFI connection, are not always as reliable as they are in the United States.
  • The hotel staff assigns rooms to guests, some rooms may include stairs. A view is not guaranteed. As we work mainly with small upscale boutique hotels, rooms can differ in size and layout. Please contact us if you have specific requests/needs.
  • Even though tips to staff and restaurants are included, it is suggested that you put aside approximately $100 in combined gratuities for your driver & Tour Director for your trip.
  • It is your responsibility to obtain the required documents to travel to Greece. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months after your return date.
  • In the unlikely event your tour does not reach the minimum participation requirement of 6 travelers, we will work with you to choose another available tour or tour date. We will do our best to make the transition as smooth as possible.
  • Please note: while we do our best to adhere to our published itineraries, they may be changed at the discretion of the Tour Leader due to weather conditions and other unforeseeable circumstances.
